Well, it could be a mixed bag for one. But in other areas, as this Surface Phone concept shows, this new device really shines. Shines enough to maybe breathe life into the platform, even.
This, of course, is the most secretive of the known projects Microsoft is working on right now.
The company has dropped various hints over the past few months, raising hopes on such a device. But amidst the rumors, we have not seen any signs of it being tested, any solid leaks that reveals its hardware and design, even the custom software features are out of sight.
Which is in some ways okay, as the Surface Phone is still far off.
But that means it is up to designers to envision the way it could look like.
And this is exactly what Bartlomiej Tarnowski from Poland has tried to do in this new concept that shows the Surface Phone in action. The design shows a powerful and highly productive Windows 10 Mobile device that comes with almost no side bezel.
Observe:
The phone does come with support for a Type Cover and a Surface Pen, which potentially provides an instant conversion into some sort of a laptop.
All this does make drawing and writing easy on the screen. And considering the fact that there are smartphones out there that make good use of a stylus, it only makes sense for Microsoft to pursue this course of action.
Where this concept lacks a little is in the overall design of the device.
The side buttons for volume control, lock and camera look quite different and somewhat odd.
