Microsoft To Trial Surface Phone Production With Pegatron
« on: November 29, 2016, 03:10:08 AM »
It begins! A report claims that Microsoft is about to start trial production of the Surface Phone, working with Pegatron to produce the first units of this phone for testing.

Although the handset itself may only come out next year.

Although it is difficult to substantiate these claims, we do know that Microsoft and Pegatron already have a working relationship, while Redmond is said to be testing a couple of early prototypes of its powerful new smartphones.

Pegatron is, of course, an Apple partner, and has also worked with Microsoft on building some existing Surface models.

This report cites the Chinese newspaper Commercial Times, and although no other details of the Surface Phone are provided, it does mention that the launch of this mythic new device is set to take place sometimes in 2017.

Fall of 2017, by most counts.

With that in mind, the start of trial production seems to align with the production of the device, and Microsoft would be able to mass produce the Surface Phone in late spring if everything goes according to plan.

The company does need time to perfectly refine its software too, Windows 10 Mobile.

Particularly, as the Surface Phone will be the one and only Windows phone to come from Microsoft, bringing the best the company has to offer in hardware and software and pioneer a new form factor that would allow users to turn the phone into a laptop via an additional accessory.

For the time being, though, let’s take all of this with the necessary pinch of salt, because nothing is confirmed yet.
