Outperforming a Core i5, that’s achievement nevertheless. Some new Intel Kaby Lake benchmarks are doing the rounds lately, showing the chip giant delivering impressive performance gains.
Tests run on the overclocking ready Core i3 7350K 4.2GHz CPU have made their way to the web, showing this little dual-core chip as nearly outperforming nearly all of the current and previous generation quad-core Core i5 CPUs.
Save for a few.
And better yet, the unlocked multiplier means that with some overclocking this chip can make a push for the Sandy Bridge Core i7 territory — an unthinkable achievement.
Here are the charts of this first ever Core i3 chip from Intel with an unlocked multiplier:

his is something that many enthusiasts have been calling for quite some time now.
The Core i3 7350K is rated at a TDP of 91W, meaning this desktop chip is by no means a trimmed down processor intended for mobile and light usage. It also features 4MB of L3 cache, and hyperthreading support, which means it can execute up to four threads simultaneously.
And this is exactly why this little chip boosts to 4.2GHz right out of the box.
Making the additional headroom offered by the unlocked multiplier for easy overclocking an icing on a very sweet cake.
Looks like Intel is intent on bringing very high single-core performance to an affordable price point to fend off the threat from the upcoming AMD Zen CPUs, which themselves are set to deliver highly competitive performance at extremely aggressive price points this January.
Finally, some action on the CPU front!
