After testing the new equipment from March of this year, SK Telecom said it will launch its first commercial LTE network in Seoul next year and will complete nationwide rollout by 2013.

Before starting the new network, SKT will be adding more WiFi hotspots. The idea is to create 15,000 hotspots around the country by the end of this year, up 50% from an initial plan. And the plan is changed as more and more people turn to data-hungry smartphones. In that sense, the carrier has raised its 2010 smartphone sales target from 2 to 2.5 million. Likewise, it will introduce 14 new smartphone devices by the end of this year, raising the total number of devices to 23. Unsurprisingly, most of the devices (19 of them to be more precise) offered by SKT will run Android.
