Facebook goes offline for second day in a row

The social-networking website Facebook went offline for the second time in 24 hours on Thursday, frustrating millions of its users.
People attempting to access the hugely popular site were greeted with a white page carrying a 'DNS Failure' error message instead of the usual homepage.

The website posted a message on Twitter responding to the problems, declaring: 'Facebook may be slow or unavailable for some people because of site issues.

'We are working to fix this quickly'.

The California-based firm did not indicate the cause of the problem, however.

Thousands of people took to Twitter to vent their anger at their inability to access the site, which now has over 500 million users worldwide.

The problem followed complications on Wednesday when the website was inaccessible to some users.
Yesterday's difficulties were put down to 'issues with a third-party networking provider'.
Other websites, which embed Facebook widgets such as like buttons also appeared to be timing out today.


Facebook, founded by Mark Suckerberger, was launched in February
2004 and has gone on to become one of the most popular websites in the world.

Yesterday it was revealed Zuckerberg, who is only 26-years-old, is now worth $6.9 billion (£4.4 billion), making him richer than Apple boss Steve Jobs and media mogul Rupert Murdoch.
It was reported on Thursday though that he plans to donate $100 million (£64 million) of his personal fortune to help improve public schools in Newark, New Jersey.

A film about the origins of Facebook and Mr Zuckerberg's rise to fame is set to be released next month.
