Starting Windows Explorer in My Computer
« on: February 23, 2009, 09:13:03 PM »
If you use Windows Explorer a lot, and want it to start at 'My Computer' here is what you do,

right click on the Windows Explorer Icon in the taskbar to the right of the Start button in the Popup
right click Windows Explorer
click Properties
in the Target Location paste the following

%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e,::{20d04fe0-3aea-1069-a2d8-08002b30309d}

then Apply and
OK

While there if you want Windows Explorer to open Maximized in the Run box click the Arrow down and change it to Maximized

Done close Windows Explorer and when you start it next it will start in My Computer and Maximized

hi sceadwe,

hummm...i have never had that problem, and I have used that for years (maybe back to win98).  the first thing I did was check it in w7 and it worked fine.

copy the line and redo it then apply and ok out of it.  close explorer and reopen it.

hope it works for you,

oh, nvm it works.  i just did a full format of my hard drive and reinstalled windows 7 without any other os and 7 doesn't lag anymore either. but yeah the one I used before must have been different. thanks for the tip tho. I hate starting in my libraries, in fact I'm not a huge fan of the libraries thing in 7

I have been trying hard to understand what you are getting at with this post.
I fail to see what you are on about :P
But then I suppose it's coz I work in a very different manner to you.

I come from the school that had the benefit of File Manager.
With File Manager I could open two panes side by side.
With, for example C:\drive in the left pane and D:\Data on the right.
After I closed down, my layout was back in place when I re-booted.
I liked that facility alot.
With Explorer I lost it.

In XP I found ways of having two Explorer panes side by side, but I had to set it up every session.
My way of working is to use Explorer as a launch pad, a working platform.
I fire up programs from Program Files folder, or open docs by clicking the word file in my My Documents folder.
It's what I do. Hey we are all different  ::)

Now in Seven I have two instances of Explorer stacked on the Task Bar.
With a right click, I get this new fangled menu thingy - I think is called Jump Menu.
Actually it's not too bad. It does take some getting used to though.
But I can Pin my most used folders at the top of the menu.
And. Well, and go straight to my chosen folder. Sweet as  :)

I suppose you lot are using that wretched Start Menu. Yuk.
Where's my Classic Menu please. I know. I know. Let's not go there now, ha ha  ;D :D ;D
