OneNote 2010 Now Syncs Multiple Notebooks on SkyDrive
« on: November 01, 2010, 09:57:18 PM »

Last month, in using Windows Phone 7, I noticed an annoying issue where OneNote 2010 on Windows Phone 7 could only sync with one Notebook stored on SkyDrive. At that time, it could only sync the notebook it automatically created called "Personal (Web)". You could go to the SkyDrive website in the browser and if you clicked on a different OneNote Notebook, it would download as a Zip file and you could open individual pages, but they wouldn't sync and you couldn't edit or save them.

We passed on our concern directly to the Office Mobile Group Product Manager during the Windows Phone 7 launch event in October, and today you'll find a much different experience! If you log into skydrive.live.com from a Windows Phone 7 using the same Live ID associated with your phone, when you tap a OneNote Notebook icon, it will open OneNote and tell you that it is initiating a sync of that Notebook. It will proceed to download the full notebook and set up a syncing relationship with their SkyDrive counterparts. When you edit a page and then press the back button, it will automatically save the notebook page and uploaded it to SkyDrive.

This is exactly how it works with OneNote 2010 on the desktop, and it's a beautiful thing. So if you were concerned with early reports that OneNote 2010 on Windows Phone 7 would only sync with one Notebook, you'll be happy to hear that this has been fixed already. How's that for fast turn-around? Oh, and did I mention it works with shared Notebooks, too?

Make sure your browser is set to load the mobile version of Skydrive or else you won't be able to open the OneNote notebook in OneNote on Windows Phone 7.
