Windows 8 Will Support ARM, Intel CEO Doesn't Mind

Intel Corp. Chief Executive Officer Paul Otellini told Fox Business Network that the news of Microsoft Corp.'s Windows 8 operating system supporting chips by ARM Holdings PLC is "no news" to him.

"It is no news. The Windows CE today, the Windows phone applications today all run on ARM and only on ARM, so what they're saying is for the tablet version and the phone version they're going to support ARM for Windows 8," he said at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

"What I'm excited about is that Windows 8 will also support Intel down into the other devices. Today we don't have an opportunity to sell into Microsoft-based phones and Microsoft-based tablets," he said.

Otellini also said he thinks tablets won't be the death of netbooks or laptops because people will buy incremental devices and as prices drop, netbooks will be the first machine people in emerging markets buy.

I imagine MS had to rewrite a ton of old code to get Windows to even be usable on tablet devices, and an update like that is good for everybody right?
