In the video below, we will see how Windows 8 Developer Preview does against Linux build Ubuntu 11.04 in a startup and resource comparison. Both operating systems have been installed as is, with no editing of settings except for the Wi-Fi connection network after startup. Both operating systems were installed on two identical Dell Inspiron Mini 1012s, with 1GB RAM.
Windows 8 Developer Build has been touted by Microsoft as being much leaner in the amount of resources it uses when compared against its own Windows 7 OS. It has also been commended on its fast boot time, and dual interface combining the uses of the familiar Windows Phone 7 'Metro' style inteface as well as the Windows 7 Desktop interface.
Windows 8 is making a run at cloud computing, which really is head to head against Google's Chrome OS, but with the addition of the same Windows desktop seen on computers, it may appeal to the public more than Chrome OS because of its compatibility in running native apps as well as older PC applications such as Photoshop, Office suites and file storage.
