Google moves to integrate user data across services
« on: January 24, 2012, 11:41:33 PM »

Google announced a new privacy policy and terms of service on Jan. 24. Here’s a look at some of the Google products that will be affected by the policy change.

YouTube

The video-sharing Web site is included under the policy, which integrates user information across various applications and services.

Google Maps

The mapping service is included in the shift. “If you’re signed in, we may combine information you’ve provided from one service with information from other services,” Alma Whitten, Google’s director of privacy, product and engineering wrote in a blog post.

Gmail

The popular free e-mail service will be covered by the new policy, which is being announced in the wake of disappointing fourth-quarter earnings for the tech firm.

Google+

Google's social network is affected by the change. The announcement appeared squarely aimed at Facebook, as Google hopes to keep users engaged on its sites longer.

Google Calendar

The tech firm's calendar service is another of its 60 products affected by the overhaul.

Android mobile phone users

who are required to log in to Google accounts -- will be most profoundly affected. Among Google's offerings that are not included in the policy shift are Google Books, Google Chrome and Google Wallet.
