Windows 8 may have had varying results depending on demographics, but one user group that seems quite satisfied with Microsoft’s new operating system is the gaming community.
The latest data on the gaming platform, Steam, for the month of May, shows that Windows 8 usage there has climbed to an impressive 12.72 percent in May, gaining a full percentage point in one month.
The tens of millions of users that have downloaded and installed Valve’s Steam client are tallied in its hardware survey. This figure above makes Windows 8 almost as popular as the 32-bit version of Windows 7.
Speaking of which, the 64-bit build of Windows 7 continues to top the rankings, unsurprisingly, it must be said. It now finds itself on 53.47 percent of computers, while its 32-bit variant has figures of 13.16 percent.
Valve’s gaming app has become a fair bit more popular among Linux users, but even after making impressive strides, Ubuntu is still trailing behind all other operating systems.
Version 13.04 just crossed the market share of 0.61 percent.
It will be interesting to see just how much of a mark the upcoming release of Windows 8.1 makes on these rankings, and how it impacts the market share of the other versions of Microsoft’s latest platform.
