Need a new tablet that has a huge, high-resolution display, a rugged case, and a powerful Intel Core i7 processor with discrete NVIDIA graphics? Then you’d best be willing to pay a premium price for it, because
Panasonic’s new Toughpad 4K tablet fits the bill… but that bill will cost you $6,999.
The tablet features an Intel Core i7-3687U processor, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M graphics, and a 20 inch, 3840 x 2560 pixel IPS display. It has 16GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, and 2GB of video memory.
Panasonic will offer the tablet with Windows 8.1 Pro or Windows 7 Professional, and it features WiFi, Bluetooth, USB 3.0, Ethernet, an SDXC card slot, HDMI output and a Mini DisplayPort. There’s a 720p front-facing camera, and if you really want to use a 20 inch tablet to snap photos, there’s a 5MP camera on the back.
For a tablet this large, the ToughPad 4K is surprisingly thin, at just under half an inch. It weighs about 5.6 pounds and gets up to 2.5 hours of battery life.
Panasonic will offer an optional Touch Pen for precise input, allowing you to use the tablet as a graphics device.
If the $7,000 asking price is too much for you, Panasonic is also going to offer a
cheaper model with a Core i5-3437U processor and NVIDIA GeForce 745M graphics in February. That version was announced a few months ago, and will sell for $5,999.
