We are hearing that Windows 9 will introduce a more polished Modern UI.
It seems like this might not happen this year though. Even though visual development and actual development usually happen in parallel, usually the graphical flourishes happen later in the process.
Winbeta is reporting that the new Modern UI will have the following:

Live Tiles: More interactive tiles that display dynamic information rather than just sit there.
•
Cortana Integration in the Start Screen: Cortana may be getting a tile.
•
A custom Notification Center•
Removal of the Charms BarNow all this needs to be taken with a large grain of salt but it’s not unreasonable to think that Microsoft will be making big changes.
What’s going to be interesting is how they make these changes without making it difficult for existing developers to go forward easily.

All this is literally will be a balancing act for Redmond.
I remember literally writing about all the changes Windows 8 was going to bring for developers in 2011. HTML 5 and CSS 3 and contracts were the talk of the town when Windows 8 was ready.
Microsoft did a lot to try and sell developers on the future with Windows 8.
Nice dinners and BUILD conferences were some of the ways that Redmond pulled out all the stops. Now, with Windows 9, the question will be, are they going to have to do it all again?
Developers have heard the story before and if it seems like Windows 9 is a big shift in any way, it may affect developer morale.
Nobody wants to have to redo apps or app languages every couple of years. It gets old.
