Microsoft Apologizes for and Explains the Skype Outage
« on: September 23, 2015, 02:45:45 PM »
Microsoft has just put out a blog post explaining what happened when the service’s free features were largely inaccessible for a day.

As we suspected, the Skype team was pushing updates and configuration changes on the back end of the service that caused issues for the various Skype clients.

The nodes that remained got hit by heavy traffic compounding the delays. Microsoft is keen to point out that business (i.e., paying customers) weren’t affected.

Skype’s Gurdeep Poll went on to apologize:

No matter how quickly we were able to resolve this issue, it would not have been quick enough. We know many of you needed to use Skype during the outage, and finding that you couldn’t would have been incredibly frustrating.

We are extremely sorry for any inconvenience caused to our users, and appreciate your patience while we addressed the issue.
With Skype increasingly built into all Windows 10 and Microsoft apps like Office 2016, the company will have to tread very carefully on future updates.

You can read the full blog post here. Did you head to an alternate service during the outage, if so, which one? Or did you just get on with life.
