My, my. What is this, Mistake Wednesday? Microsoft certainly seems to be in the mood for mistake today, as the company erroneously pushed a suspicious looking patch via Windows Update.
This to go with the specious reveal of the company’s upcoming flagship earlier in the day, which was quickly corrected.
However, this update rollout bit was not as quickly corrected — leading some users to
believe that the service was hacked. Obviously, the content and description of the update was so unusual that it did not take much imagination to think that the platform was compromised.
Take a gander:

Scary!
The good news for all concerned is that the company has confirmed that Windows Update was not hacked, and the appearance of the update was due to an error on its part.
Admittedly, the software titan had
incorrectly published a test update.
This particular update with its nonsense name and meaningless entries listed under details was dated for October 1, came in at 4.3MB of size, and was rated as Important.
What’s interesting is that this patch was actually delivered only to consumer editions of Windows 7, but right not there is no idea of just how many users saw it.
Luckily the patch failed to install for most that tried to, though one user claims that he did manage to successfully install this update, which not only killed his system but also compromised his gear.
