Microsoft Testing Surface Phone With Powerful Intel Chip Inside
« on: December 09, 2015, 09:52:08 PM »
About time we started getting interesting news about the mythic Surface Phone regularly. Talk about this upcoming business oriented flagship has intensified in recent months.

This is a device that is expected to be unveiled sometimes next year.

And Panos Panay, Microsoft’s head of the Surface unit, who is now leading the mobile division, has been tasked with the making of this Surface Phone with more powerful circuitry — in order to successfully compete with other flagships on the market.

The latest intelligence to come our way provides a glimpse of what the device might look like.

But first an overview of what it houses.

It looks like the Surface Phone will be equipped with a much more powerful Intel based chipset, one that the company is developing and plans to announce next year. Word is that it could challenge the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, and the Surface Phone might be one of the first devices to feature it.

Onto the design, then.

While previous rumors hinted that this phone will feature a metal unibody, it appears that Microsoft now wants to design it similar to the Surface family.

It’s being developed by the same team, after all, so will borrow certain elements.

The plan for Redmond is to launch two flagships every year.

So we can expect the company to go all in with the latest technologies for this one, including potentially a 4K screen (yes, they’re going mainstream soon) or a 2560 x 1600 QHD package at the minimum in either a 5.2 or 5.5 inch display.

Camera options are said to be either a 20 or 15 megapixel sensor on the back, with advanced features and an 8 megapixel one on the front with LED flash.

An innovative cover, native support for Surface Pen and an enhanced IR scanner is also said to be on the cards, but no details whatsoever right now on whether the Surface Phone will be able to run traditional Win32 apps or not.

It’s tracking for a launch in Q3 2016, so there’s plenty of time for the company to nail down this project, which is expected to be powered by a new version of Windows 10 Mobile.
