Users Report Installation Issues With Windows 10 Update KB3194496
« on: September 30, 2016, 09:31:18 PM »
Another update, another installation problem! Microsoft released update KB3194496 to retail users of Windows 10 earlier today, and it did not take long for users to complain of installation issues.

After Windows Insiders were hit with similar problems with this update.

And that’s the worst part.

Users that rushed to install this cumulative update are now reporting the same bugs as previous releases, which means that this update fails to install successfully on PCs — with an error that simply says “Undoing change”, and nothing more.

As one user explains:

Quote
“Fails to install for me, tried 3 times. Every time I get an ‘undoing changes…’ screen during the reboot. I’ll just wait if there’ll be another update to fix that.”
And another one notes:

Quote
“I keep getting Undoing changes, couldn’t install updates. I have tried troubleshooting windows update. I get the following error is event viewer: 0x800F0922 and a few AppReadiness errors.”
Errors like these are particularly hurtful for those that depend on their computers for critical and time sensitive work. Because not only do problems like these end up wasting time, they potentially lead to booting up issues and troubles with general usage of these devices.

Luckily, the numbers of complaints from users that deployed this update is substantially smaller than the previous cumulative updates.

No workaround is available, in case you were wondering, but Microsoft is likely looking into these reports and provide a fix. The next Patch Tuesday update is scheduled for October 11, but a different one could very well arrive before that.
