Solid stuff, Microsoft. New options have been spotted in the upcoming Windows 10 Creators Update that will allow users to exclude drivers from updates that are shipped via Windows Update.

This new feature has been spotted in the leaked build 15002.

The version of the preview that was apparently canceled at the last minute after the Windows team discovered a bug.

Also going by the codename Redstone 2, the Creators Update is now stacked with features — and this new option will certainly be a welcome addition for power users that prefer to manually update the drivers on their computers.

The new option is available in Settings > Update & security > Windows Update > Advanced options, and Microsoft calls this as “Include driver updates when I update Windows”. You can disable this choice, and when done, your PC will no longer receive the latest drivers for its hardware.

Here’s how it looks:

Additionally, the new option to temporarily pause the deployment of updates is also there, allowing you to postpone the installation of updates for up to 35 days.

Described as:

Quote
“You can temporarily pause updates from being installed for up to 35 days. Some updates, like Windows Defender definition updates, will continue to be installed.”

All these changes will come in handy for users who experienced issues with the new drivers that were automatically shipped to their PCs via Windows Update, resulting in compatibility problems on their computers.

Mostly, graphics, network and sound drivers are the ones that cause trouble.

But nice to see Microsoft listening to, and implementing, feedback here.
