Windows 10 Creators Update Picks Up Support For WiGig
« on: January 10, 2017, 03:56:55 AM »

If there’s one thing you can’t doubt Windows 10 Creators Update for, it’s all the latest technology features Microsoft has implemented in this next major refresh of its operating system.

WiFi 802.11ad is the latest standard that got in.

More commonly known as WiGig.

The software titan confirmed this new addition at a recent WinHEC event in China, and revealed this in a slide that was prepared for the presentation. This implementation is part of the new Wireless Docking technologies that Redmond has built into the operating system.

This new protocol provides higher bandwidth and download speeds of up to 8Gbps by using the 60GHz wireless spectrum.

As noted above, Microsoft is also working on extending its capabilities in a future Windows 10 update with wireless docking powered by the WiFi 802.11ad technology.

With the ultimate goal being to make sure that every Windows device — no matter if it is a PC, tablet or phone — is able to connect to these universal docking stations wirelessly. Though it stands to reason that users will definitely need new hardware that support these features.

But since the company has already revealed its intentions to hardware makers at this even last month, we can expect these new peripherals and devices with support for WiFi 802.11 ad to make their way to the market soon.
