If you somehow find yourself using this new version, that is. We finally have some solid details of how to upgrade Windows 10 Cloud to Windows 10 Pro, the process that Microsoft has set up.

And it somehow involves the Windows Store, of all places.

Yes, talk of licensing via the Store has been going on for years now, and this is the avenue Redmond has selected for this new lightweight version of its operating system that is in development — as a free OS for OEMs, primarily.

We have been hearing that users will be able to upgrade it to a more capable and fully featured version at a price, though.

But as this report so aptly illustrates, a Windows Store purchase will make it possible to upgrade Windows 10 Cloud to Windows 10 Pro any time. And this will happen when you try to open an x86 based software program on this free, new version of the operating system.

As the GIF below illuminates, a popup notification will appear when you do that, saying that the app you are trying to install isn’t designed for Windows 10 Cloud:

And below that text, is another dialog that states that Windows Cloud helps protect your PC by only running Windows Store apps, while also showing what you need to do to install the app.

Clicking on the link provided opens up the Windows Store, with the following listing for the Pro version:

Quote
“With Windows 10 Pro, you get enhanced features to help you easily connect to company networks, access one PC from another, encrypt your data, and more. For advanced technical and security features, go Pro.”
The listing also reveals the range of additional features that Windows 10 Pro brings to the table, including options like BitLocker, Hyper-V, Remote Desktop, private app catalog support, and more.

Pretty standard affair.

Now, all we need is a confirmation from Microsoft about its Windows 10 Cloud plans, and how much the upgrade will cost. The pieces of puzzles are gradually coming together, though, about this new entry level version of the operating system that Redmond will no doubt push
