Fix: Windows 7 boot screen shows a Vista boot screen instead
« on: March 28, 2009, 05:36:43 AM »

Sometimes when you are trying to tinker with a multi-boot setup, you may end up seeing a Vista boot screen instead of the new Windows 7 boot screen. There are also a number of other possibilities that may have triggered this to happen but I’m not going to cover them in this article. As a note, when you are planning to install multiple versions of Windows, make sure to work your way up from the oldest operating system.

How-To:
1) Type cmd into the Start menu search box and press Ctrl+Shift+Enter

2) Copy and paste the following into command prompt. This command is for the English version of Windows. Make sure to change en-US to the proper locale if you are using another version.

bcdedit /set {current} locale en-US

Once you restart your computer, the changes will take effect and you should see the Windows 7 boot screen.

My understanding is that on machines with less 1024 x 600 resolution (netbooks with 1024 x 576, for example) the Vista-style boot screen is the only thing you CAN get.  Is that what you have found?
