Tips and/or tricks to boost performance?
« on: May 09, 2009, 09:45:03 PM »
Immediately after installing Windows 7 the hard disk performance number was extreemly low.
Defragmented the hard drive and the score jumped up more than 1.5 points. This more or less indicates there is a fair amount of fragmentation immediately after a "Clean Install".

This is probably just common sense to most people but I only have essential things start with Windows automatically, so no Quicktime, Adobe, or Java.  Just my firewall and anti-virus start up automatically.

Java isn't a big deal, but that Quicktime + iTunes combination eats memory like a fiend on my computer, and it's not necessary until I actually want to use them.  Same goes for Adobe.

There's no place like 127.0.0.1

This seems an old post and the original problems probably disappear by now.

I found Windows 7 has a self defense or healing function that is interesting and its performance is no less than other versions of Windows.

I am running dual boot of Windows XP -SP3 and Windows 7.

I don't see much performance difference or maybe there is something in my machine limiting the max performance and they both have reached that.

There are no compelling reasons to go Windows 7.  But it is new.  People want new things just like their clothes.  Even they are not worn out but people want new fashions.  That is my take to it.  I am playing with Windows 7 but if anything becomes serious, I boot my old buddy WinXP up.
