$320 for Ultimate...

So that's $75 for the software and $245 for the fancy box, I thought this was supposed to be a break away from Vista?
There's no place like 127.0.0.1

NO S___!!! Me too??!!?!
Well--- You know MICROSOFT just barely made any substantial "profit" last year.
AND, they even had to lay-off 5,000(+) people recently, to stay in the black(profit?).
Must be hard to make those tough decisions, when it comes to someone else's income.
Besides BILL GATES..... Has got to look out for "number one".
            Right???
This shows just how much, that his company really cares about this screwed-up economy. And, the much poorer people that have to REALLY deal with it.
                      What a guy!!!! ;) ;)

Windows 7 Ultimate @ $320.00 when Vista appeared the Ultimate version was $499.00 of course it has been drastically cut today but who in their right mind would want it.

I hated Vista when I first got in in 3Q 2005 and all the way through 2006.    I got an advance free copy for Christmas and gave it away as a Xmas Gift. HUM that person still willl not talk to me!  :'(  :(  :o

There will be a lot of stores that will sell the OEM version at discounted prices so watch your papers for that.  Example on this, Vista Home Premium OEM here in San Francisco was $99.00 out the door.  Ultimate was $149.95 so a tremendous saving.  I have also seen Vista Ultimate unopened on Craigslist for as low as $35.00.

I read somewhere else, not on this forum.
"I think that Microsoft should give a copy of Windows 7 to anyone who sends there copy of Vista to them".
This would be edition for edition, but will this happen? not likely, so I guess we will just have to live with the expenditure we made for an OS that was junk and move onto what Microsoft should have presented in the first place.
I am totally amazed at the difference in what is coming out of Redmond with the change in leadership. So who knows what will take place now.

Leaked Best Buy memo reveals Windows 7 Upgrade pricing?
Earlier this week Microsoft finally confirmed to the world that Windows 7 will hit general availability October 22nd, a date in which we've all been waiting for. Now that we know the date, our next question is what will Windows 7 cost consumers? Apparently Best Buy has the answer to that question, as Engadget is reporting that a leaked memo has revealed the upgrade plans for Windows 7, Best Buy will offer customers to order a Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade for $49.99 and Windows 7 Professional Upgrade for $99.99. As far as I'm concerned this is going to give a huge break to today's consumers as they are tightening their pocket books in order to prevail through these tough economic times. So is this really cheaper than Windows Vista? Let's examine the costs.
When Windows Vista was launched back in November of 2006, the upgrade options and pricing were: Windows Vista Home Premium Upgrade $129.95 and Vista Business Upgrade was $199.95. With that in mind users who are upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 7 are going to be saving between 60 and 50% this time around. Now if this is legitimate, I think it's time to say that the tech world and blogosphere alike are fixing to applause Microsoft for making the right decision.

Looking at the memo a bit further it appears that Best Buy is going to presale select Windows 7 SKUs on BestBuy.com starting June 26th, so start saving those pennies!

Re: WINDOWS 7 PRICE'S - Will they be the same for us?

Do you think that there is any chance that those of us who have gone through the exposure to these last two editions might get any sort of price break because of our involvement with the Beta and RC editions? If we could be allowed download priority or at least some recognition that we are actually good experimental users who have been instrumental in the progression of W7? I'll bet that there are a lot of you who went ahead and used their single computers, and that had to be worth something to them.

Hi Guys

Looks like us in the UK may be able to buy W7 at about half price for the first few months according to a story on MSN today

Here's a link to the full story....

From Cnet article it looks like more than just Best Buy will offer the discount rate:

Quote
From Friday through July 11, consumers in the U.S. will be able to buy an upgrade copy of Windows 7 Home premium for $49 or Windows 7 Professional for $99. That offer is good for both XP and Windows Vista PCs, regardless of whether someone has been trying out the pre-release version of the operating system. That matches the details in a memo from Best Buy that leaked earlier this month.

The offer, however, is limited in both duration and by the number of copies Microsoft is willing to sell, although Microsoft would not specify that figure. The upgrade will be available at Amazon, Best Buy, Microsoft's own store, Office Depot, OfficeMax, Costco, Staples, Wal-Mart and several other retailers.
