EU says skeptical over unbundling Explorer from Windows 7
« on: June 12, 2009, 06:51:19 AM »

The European Commission has expressed skepticism over an announcement from Microsoft that it would strip Internet Explorer browsers from copies of its Windows 7 operating system sold in Europe.

The US software giant said on Thursday it still planned to release its next-generation operating system worldwide on October 22, but that customers in Europe would have to install web browsers of their choice.

The commission, Europe's top competition watchdog, opened a new front in its epic anti-trust battle with Microsoft in January.

It hit the company with fresh charges of unfairly squashing competition by bundling its Internet Explorer web browser into its ubiquitous Windows personal computer operating system.

The commission said it would decide soon whether it considered Microsoft to have abused its position and what remedies were necessary to give consumers genuine choice.

"In terms of potential remedies, if the Commission were to find that Microsoft had committed an abuse, the Commission has suggested that consumers should be offered a choice of browser not that Windows should be supplied without a browser at all," it said in a statement.

The European Commision are a bunch of idiots.

First, its apparently unfair to bundle a browser with Windows, and now they get what they wanted, they still don't know. What a bunch of moronic people.

Was it not enough to allow IE to be uninstalled? Most people DO NOT WANT TO USE A DIFFERENT BROWSER! And those who do, are perfectly capabable of downloading one.

I seriously hope someone from the European Commision reads this to see how retarded they really are.

If the EU  want microsoft to put other browsers in with there product mozilla nad opera and google should have to pay ms to do that its there product. the EU are just trying to flex its musiles well microsoft will solve that by just putting IE as a optinal update as soon as u install w7
