How To Quickly Rename Multiple Files In Windows 7
« on: August 25, 2011, 04:47:30 PM »
I’ve regularly found myself in a position where I need to rename multiple files in Windows 7. Generally I laboriously go through each file and name them one by one until it’s all done. I’ve always wondered if there was a quicker way to do it, so after a bit of research I’ve discovered that there is!

Generally when you rename a file in Windows you hit enter after you type in the new file name to confirm it. However if you hit the tab key instead it will quickly move onto the next file and allow you to start typing in that file name immediately. Then you can keep hitting tab and fly through all the different files and quickly rename them

It’s a great little trick isn’t it? Well there’s an even better trick

What if you could get Windows to automatically rename all the files for you? Instead of you manually going through them all which can take time, even with the tab method mentioned above.

Well to do that you first highlight all the files you want to rename. Then you rename the first file and instead of hitting enter or tab, this time you’re going to hit F2. This will then automatically rename all the files the same with sequential numbering. ie. file1,file2,file3 etc…

This is a great little tip if you can remember it. It will certainly save you a bunch of time in the long run.
