With the arrival of the upcoming version of Android OS called Ice Cream Sandwich in Novenber speculations have started on the next version of Android.
According to a report citing trusted sources in ‘This is My Next’, Jelly Bean is the working name for next incarnation of Android.
The name follows Google’s tradition of calling its Android operating systems after sweets in alphabetical order. Earlier versions of Android follow a typical order — Cupcake 1.5, Donut 1.6, Eclair 2.1, Froyo 2.2, Gingerbread 2.3, Honeycomb 3.0 and the upcoming Ice Cream Sandwich.
The report quotes industry source saying, that the “game-changing stuff” that had originally been scheduled for Ice Cream Sandwich will be being pushed to Jelly Bean. Jelly Bean could be dubbed Android 4.5 or Android 5.0, depending on the amount of features packed, says the report.
Ice Cream Sandwich is expected to be a universal operating system that will work on phones, tablets, TVs, and even phones that transform into laptops. Among other things, the OS is likely to bring an updated app launcher, holographic user interface, interactive and new homescreen widgets and a multi-tasking panel.
Are these the names of the upcoming Android Operating System.
K: Kaiser Roll

It might not be a dessert, but it’s still baked goods, and it sure beats Kosher Pickle (and the boring Key Lime Pie). The Kaiser roll is popular in Europe, which might help Android’s sale figures worldwide.
L: Lollypop

There are several options in L, but I think Lollypop is hands down the best one. It has a retro feeling to it, and at the same time makes us think of cute kids. Excellent connotations all around!
M: Marzipan

After the simple and sweet Lollypop, Google might go for something a bit more sophisticated. Marzipan is a delectable almond & sugar candy that is very popular all over the world.
N: Nougat

O: Orange Marmalade

After several one-word names, Google would want to recreate the Ice Cream Sandwich buzz. A name like Orange Marmalade would be just right for this.
P: Puff Pastry

Q: Quinoa Pudding

Yes, there is such a thing. And this name will aim at all those health-conscious users who might have been repelled by all the sweet desserts. Quinoa is considered to be health food, and making a pudding out of it is one way to prepare a dessert that at least sounds healthy.
R: Red Velvet

S: Sugar Cube

After 16 dessert names, this is finally the real thing. There are many choices for S, but none is better than good old Sugar Cube. After all, isn’t sugar what it’s all about?
T: Toffee

U: Upside-Down Cake

Some might think this lame, but I think it’s brilliant. Letters like U many times call for odd and unfamiliar desserts, but Google would not want too many of those. Everyone knows upside-down cake, and it’s yummy!
V: Vanilla Frosting

W: Whipped Cream

X: ?
X is the sugar substitute and food additive letter. But there’s nothing less attractive than an operating system called Xylitol, Xylose or Xanthan Gum. I don’t believe Google would actually skip X though, that would be giving up. In this case, Google’s executive chef would probably invent a whole new dessert and launch it to coincide with the new version. We can only wait to see what its name would be.
Y: Yellow Cake

After the very exotic X, people would need to relax with something simple and familiar. What’s better than plain old Yellow cake?
Z: Zwieback

Zwieback are German cookies that are much like Biscotti, even the names mean the same thing: baked twice. This would be an excellent way to end the alphabet. Some people will love the foreign twist, and some would be bored by a word they don’t understand, and will be that much more ready for a whole new game of codenames.
What Next?
So what will happen when it all ends? Will Android still exist, or will they turn into something else to prevent this crisis? Will there ever be such cool codenames after these are done? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. I personally plan to keep track of all the next versions and count exactly how many I got right.
