Metro-Style apps installation folder in Windows 8 Consumer Preview is hidden by default and also, you need additional permissions to access that folder. You just need to enter your administrator account details and you would get access to the folder in just seconds.

This tutorial would show how to access Windows 8 Metro-Style apps installation folder in just seconds and there is a tutorial video showing the same, embedded at the end of this article.

Instructions:

  • First of all open up ‘Computer’ and navigate to the partition where you have installed the Windows 8 Consumer Preview and open it up.

  • Open up ‘Program Files’.

 • You need to view the hidden files as the Apps folder is hidden.

  • Go to ‘View’ menu at the top of the window and mark the ‘Hidden items’ box. This would show the hidden files.

  • Now, you should see the ‘Windows Apps’ folder in program files folder. Open it up.

  • You would be asked that you need permissions to access this folder. Press ‘Continue’ and then again you would be denied access.

  • Just press the ‘security tab’ link in the pop-up box.

  • This would open a pop-up window. Select ‘Advanced’ from that window.

  • Another pop-up window would open. Now, click the ‘Change’ link against owner at the top of that window.

  • Another, small pop-up window would open. Now, here you need to enter the administrator credentials which would be Windows Live ID you used to login to Windows 8 or it may be a local account.

  • Enter the email or full name in the object name box and press ‘Check Name’s button against that text box to verify it.

  • If it is correct, then your full name/email would appear in that box but, if, it is wrong then you may need to enter the name/email again.

  • After verifying, just press ok to go back and then ok and again ok to go back to the first window showing that the access have been denied. Close that window .

  • Now, open up the Windows Apps folder and hopefully, this time the folder would open.

  • That’s all!
