Redstone Arrives In Two Waves, June And October 2016
« on: April 08, 2015, 01:29:15 AM »
Windows 10 may still be a while away, but Microsoft is apparently ready to start work on a new project. Codename Redstone, which according to reports is slated for next year.

According to reports like this and this.

The first details of what is essentially a large update to Windows 10 have now surfaced, and this has led to more sources weighing in on what they know about Redstone — including the targeted release dates of these new refreshes.

As explained, Redstone will arrive in two waves, the first of which is scheduled for June 2016, and the next one takes flight in October of the same year.

Coincidently, these are the two Windows 10 release time frames we’ve been hearing about.

Middle of summer and end of fall, leading up to the Back-to-School and the Holiday shopping season, and hopefully leading up to a bunch of new hardware releases from Microsoft partners. So basically, nothing new here, two tried and tested launch windows.

The key point here is that Microsoft will split the release of these large updates in these two waves.

What would really be interesting is if we get some hints on the kind of features that will be included in Redstone, and whether some of these could have been part of Windows 10 at launch.

Then again, with Redmond wanting to keep Windows 10 always updated, this just ties into all that. Any features that will not be locked down by the time the RTM version of Windows 10 is ready, will simply be left for Redstone.

The days of Windows 95 and 98 sure are behind us, with set OS releases on shiny discs.

Or disks, as in floppy disks for the former, for that matter.
