Microsoft Edge Extensions Will Not Be Available At Launch
« on: May 01, 2015, 01:18:43 AM »
One might for forgiven for missing the good old days here, when operating systems launched feature-complete. Microsoft Edge is the new browser for Windows 10, but it’ll be missing a few options at launch.

Loses a little bit of the edge here, then, the browser.

As many feared, the software titan will only add support for extensions in Edge after the app is out in the wild, meaning plugins will not be available at launch.

This has been confirmed during one of Microsoft’s developer sessions at BUILD 2015.

Extensions are the not only thing that will be missing from the get go, as Microsoft Edge is expected to receive a number of feature updates after Windows 10 hits RTM and the new operating system launches in the summer.

There is no clear timetable for when extensions will be added in.

But at least, users will be able to update the new web browser via Windows Store, and all such missing and delayed upgrades and features will be rolled out on a consistent basis.

This actually is the case for Windows 10 overall, as it seems that Microsoft is really close to locking down all the features for the RTM milestone, and will spend a few months before release to fine tune, refine and polish them.

Additional features will then be made available as regular updates.

Modern software, right?

One might be forgiven for missing the good old days here.
