So everyone has been talking about Windows 10 and the Windows 10 release date of July 29th 2015.
This has been sold as the RTM date and the date when Microsoft will release Windows 10 to the world. It is expected that several hundred million will begin the download process on that date.
Now as you can imagine, if several hundred million people begin downloading Windows 10 at the same time on July 29th, it will be a very interesting experience.
In addition, while it’s easy for some of us to take broadband bandwidth for granted, not everyone has access to high speed internet.
Downloading a very massive file all at once on the 29th will be challenging for a lot of the world’s population.
This is not lost on the engineers at Microsoft.
Our sources at Microsoft tell us that they have been thinking through the best way to optimize the RTM update experience and one of the methods on the table is going to be pre-downloading the upgrade.
The concept of pre-downloading Windows 10 RTM
It’ll work like this.
Windows 10 will actually be sealed and considered RTM’ed days or even up to a week before the 29th.
Because Windows 10 will be the birth of continuous updates, development won’t ever really stop as the Microsoft development group will continue working on updates.
Several days before the 29th, there is discussion about pushing out or pre-downloading bits of the Windows 10 RTM on PC’s registered for the Windows 10 update.
The idea is to begin a gradual download days before the actual “RTM date” so there is less to do on the actual date.
These updates would run in the background and may or may not be an actual “process” that users need to actually approve or kick off.
So word to the wise, keep your PC’s on a few days before the 29th. It might help your RTM upgrade process a lot quicker.source:windows10update
