Microsoft Advises Against Doing A Clean Windows 10 Install
« on: July 17, 2015, 01:35:06 AM »
For now, for now. Much has happened in these past 24 hours, starting with the fact that a new build of Windows 10 has officially been released to Windows Insiders.

This, of course, being the RTM version.

In terms of unofficial releases, the community has also converted these ESD files into ISO files, for those that want to do a clean install of the new operating system.

However now might not be a good time for this. In fact, Microsoft outright advises against it — and that is because they might lose their activation.

Gabriel Aul explains this:

Obviously, with build 10240 being the RTM version (that Microsoft hands over to hardware vendors to preinstall the operating system on their upcoming devices), many thought that now might be a good time to do a clean install ahead of the official launch.

But stated above, Microsoft removed the ISOs and keys for this version in order to stress test its delivery systems ahead of the official launch.

The company obviously wants user (read Windows Insiders) to deploy build 10240 via the Windows Update option, meaning the only viable option here is to update from an existing Insider build that is already activated.

It’s either that, or as Microsoft recommends wait for a couple more weeks, until July 29, when the company officially launches Windows 10 and deploying the final bits.
