So there you have it, ladies and gentlemen! An official confirmation that Windows 10 Home users will not be able to opt out or defer updates and choose when to install and when.

Talk about this has been going on for a while now.

And in the EULA that Microsoft included in Windows 10 build 10240 — which by most counts is said to be an RTM candidate, if not the final RTM version itself — confirms this to be the case. Simply put, users cannot disable this process, and cannot even delay it.

Meaning, computers running the Home version of Windows 10 will get updates and security patches automatically, and they will be installed once they are downloaded onto the device.

The licensing agreement of the new operating system explains how this works:

Quote
The Software periodically checks for system and app updates, and downloads and installs them for you. You may obtain updates only from Microsoft or authorized sources, and Microsoft may need to update your system to provide you with those updates. By accepting this agreement, you agree to receive these types of automatic updates without any additional notice.”
You agree, indeed.

So when you deploy Windows 10 Home on your device, you can be sure that your computers and tablets will be the first to get updates and install them.

Windows 10 Pro users, on the other hand, get access to a new feature that Microsoft has conveniently labeled Windows Update for Business, and this allows them to defer and delay installation of updates and patches for a maximum of 8 months.

Good thing for IT administrators to wait up to half a year to see if there are any specific issues with any particular update.

Windows 10 Enterprise users are provided with the Long Term Service Branch (LTSB), which only gets updates every few years and is only recommended for those that do not necessarily need to be on the latest version of the platform in terms of features and improvements.
