Micosoft Suggests 7-Inch Tablets are Mobiles
« on: September 25, 2015, 02:37:07 PM »

Microsoft has published a new raft of specifications for Windows 10 devices.

While most play to the expected rules, the one that might get some folk irate is the classing of the 7-inch tablet (or phablet) as a mobile device.

Microsoft is pushing this category tablet as shipping with Windows 10 Mobile, while 8-inch class devices should ship with Windows 10 for desktops.

So, 7-inch devices will be useful for Cortana, but lack the desktop. Instead users will work via Continuum to carry on work from their main desktop, but not much else outside of the mobile experience and universal apps.

The Toshiba Encore is the one of the leading 7-inch tablet models we can think of, and there are plenty of cheap white box models that will fall into this category.

While these might be fine for light media consumer devices, they do have to compete with a huge number of Android tablets and the more expensive iPad mini.

So, is there much point of hope for 7-inch tablets running Windows Mobile when that extra inch gives a higher definition screen and more power and battery life?

We’re guessing not that many devices will arrive in this form, given the growing number of larger phones and more powerful tablets.
