DirectX 12 Option Found In Rise Of The Tomb Raider
« on: March 02, 2016, 08:40:18 PM »
Microsoft showcased Xbox One and Windows 10 gaming in San Francisco last week, and one of the talking points was the DirectX 12 technology, and how its development is coming along.

Mighty fine, as you may have gathered by now.

New graphics card that make use of this brand new low level API from Microsoft are coming soon, as are plenty of games with support for this rendering — and apparently, Rise of the Tomb Raider is one of the high-profile titles that have been confirmed to use DirectX 12.

Redmond showed off a playable version running on this version of DirectX at that event.

And it appears that Crystal Dynamics will be releasing a DX12 patch for this game very soon.

In the meantime, though, it has been accidently found that the latest launcher for this game does include a DirectX 12 option that allows this title to be played in this fashion.

While playing around with game files, a Reddit user found this option within the launcher for the Rise of the Tomb Raider, and as this screenshot below shows, the title does come with support for this latest API technology.

Take a look:

Only a matter of time, then, that we will get this option in the game, which should theoretically improve performance if not add new bells and whistles in terms of features.

But this bodes well for DirectX 12 overall.

The technology is exclusive to Windows 10, and better adoption will only help the operating system increase its market share.
