The Windows 10 upgrade process is, more or less, straightforward for end users, but businesses and enterprise customers do often run into problems with deployment.
In many cases, PCs are not able to install the new operating system due to various errors.
For this very reason, Microsoft is now providing IT professionals with documentation on how to resolve the most common Windows 10 upgrade errors — offering not only complete details on upgrade error codes, but also quick fixes for the problems that are typically experienced when upgrading to this OS.
That’s not to say all of these recommendations make a difference.
Think of them as general advises that Microsoft engineers or MVPs post on Community forums.
As Microsoft notes:
“Some result codes are self-explanatory, whereas others are more generic and require further analysis. ERROR_DISK_FULL indicates that the hard drive is full and additional room is needed to complete Windows upgrade. The message STATUS_SOME_NOT_MAPPED is more ambiguous, and means that an action is pending. In this case, the action pending is often the cleanup operation from a previous installation attempt, which can be resolved with a system reboot.”
Redmond doles out the usual advice of checking all hard drives for errors and attempting repairs, restoring and fixing system files, updating Windows, removing antivirus software, uninstalling nonessential software, and, of course, updating firmware.
However, one section of the documentation that should come in a lot handier is the error diagnosis section — because it can help IT administrators and professionals determine the cause of a problem using the error message displayed on the screen.
