Two birds, one stone, kind of a deal! Microsoft announced the Surface Book i7 at its October 26 event a little while back, and though this new model my look exactly like its predecessor, there are some small changes.

Small changes that make a big difference.

Talking about the gap created by the hinge when the laptop is closed — this was something that a lot of people disliked in the first model. Though some saw it as a good thing too, as it was different and served its purpose well.

But for the most part, this gap between the display and the keyboard only let dust and lint slip in.

Microsoft, of course, heard all these complaints, and ensured that this new i7 model addressed the gap by creating a bigger base that added extra thickness. This reduced the space, as you can very well see in this photo snapped by The Verge:

The difference may not be striking at first, but the bigger base now makes the keyboard come in contact with the screen and this goes a long way in reducing the gap.

Redmond was able to achieve this thanks to the bigger battery that requires more space, meaning buyers of this new i7 model get two great benefits for the price of one.

There have been rumors that the technology giant was actually working on a gapless Surface Book model, but this is practically the next best thing.

Of course, the company did not talk about this at the event, since it is only available in this one model, and this is not a refresh of the full Surface Book line. But there is every chance that the second-generation lineup sees this change implemented throughout.
