Microsoft Sharing Windows 10 Telemetry Data With Third Parties
« on: November 25, 2016, 01:27:40 AM »
Well, just one third party for now, but Microsoft has struck a deal to share Windows 10 telemetry data with security firm FireEye, in a new deal to improve the security capabilities of devices powered by its new operating system.

In return, Redmond will integrate the FireEye iSIGHT Intelligence software right into the Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection module.

Information in this regard remains rather vague, but as reported this new partnership will bring some obvious security benefits for Microsoft.

While the terms of the deal will see FireEye gain access to telemetry from every device running Windows 10. Microsoft, obviously, collects crash information and other statistics from all computers that run its latest OS.

Interestingly, the press release that FireEye posted today says nothing about Microsoft providing them with access to information collected from Windows 10 systems.

But Ken Gonzalez, senior vice president of corporate development at FireEye does brag about the security technology that Microsoft is adopting:

Quote
“FireEye has invested in nation-state grade intelligence and we are strategically partnering with industry leaders to operationalize this high-quality intel. By working with Microsoft we’re able to offer differentiated intelligence within WDATP and together help make organizations more secure.”

Typical press release comment!

Nothing from Microsoft on this, though, on what is already a controversial topic for Windows 10.

Telemetry data collection is something that many users have shown displeasure for, even though the software titan maintains that no personal information is transferred to its servers, and the only thing it looks for is crash information and other usage patterns to improve the operating system.
