New Windows 10 Build Coming Next Week
« on: January 08, 2017, 09:05:46 AM »
A pesky little bug has, once again, forced Microsoft to delay the release of a build, with the company confirming that the new Windows 10 build is now only expected next week.

The bug has been fixed, though.

Redmond is actually coming off of a big pause — the company promised to release a new build of Windows 10 Creators Update, also known as Redstone 2, early in 2017.

This, due to the holiday break, of course, meaning the last Insider build was actually rolled out on December 7.

Now, while everyone expected the build releases to start this week, Dona Sarkar has revealed that this was not possible because of a major update bug.

The head of the Windows Insider program explained in a post on the Feedback Hub that the Windows team discovered a bug that made updating that build to the next one difficult. So, they essentially decided to hold back the release until this issue was fixed.

As explained:

Quote
“Many of you have been asking about getting a new build this week. Unfortunately, we don’t have a good candidate to release to you right now. We have hit an issue with N + 1 updates (the update path going forward from one build to another). We have a commitment to never leave our community in a bad state if we can help it. We certainly don’t want to release a build that would leave Insiders stuck and requiring a reinstall of Windows to get back into a good state.”

Nobody wants that to happen, right?

Thing is, that this particular build is expected to be a major one and bring along plenty of improvements that were noted in one of the leaked builds a couple of weeks back.

But it’s confirmed that the issue is fixed and we will get our hands on this new version very soon:

Quote
“We believe we have solved the issue and are pushing new builds out through our internal rings right now to test the solution. If everything looks good, we hope to have a new build for you next week.”

Microsoft is also expected to finalize work on the Creators Update this month, get it feature locked, and delays like this certainly eat into the time that could be better spent on testing and optimizing the new options in the OS.

Next week, then!
