Microsoft has recently started displaying notifications in File Explorer about some of the new features in Windows 10. Microsoft initially tested this feature with Windows Insiders for the upcoming Creators Update, but the company later introduced to all users running the Anniversary Update with a new update at a later date.
The new notifications in File Explorer, however, can show some ads sometimes and that might annoy some users. As you can see in the above screenshot, Microsoft is showing an ad for Office 365 and OneDrive in File Explorer. This is considered as an “ad” due to the fact that it’s promoting a premium service. This is pretty debatable though as Microsoft is promoting one of its own services on its own operating system.
Nevertheless, if you aren’t a fan of this type of ads, you can easily disable them by following the steps below:
■ Open the View tab from the File Explorer’s ribbon
■ Click on Options to open File Explorer settings
■ From the Folder Options window, click on the View tab
■ There, you’ll need to find the “Show sync provider notifications” checkbox
■ Uncheck the checkbox and then save the settings by clicking OK
■ After that, the ads/notifications should be gone from the Explorer
Keep in mind that you can also dismiss the notifications right from the Explorer, so they aren’t really that annoying — at least for now, anyway.
