Minimize Windows Live Messenger to Tray in Windows 7

If you would like to minimze Windows Live Messenger to the tray instead of the taskbar in Windows 7, follow these few simple steps.

1. Close Live Messenger (right click, close window)
2. Navigate to the Windows Live Messenger shortcut in the start menu
3. Right click the shortcut, select properties
4. Select compatibility tab
5. Check mark the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"
6. In the drip down box select Windows Vista SP1
7. Close properties dialog box and restart Live Messenger

i also found that this same trick will work for windows live mail as well, but after setting it to run in compatibility mode you have to-

1. Right click the icon for Windows Live Mail in the tray and select "Hide window when minimized"

and thats it!
