To help in making the decision of what version or flavor of W7 to upgrade to will depend on your needs and what each version has in it.

Posted here is a rough list of What's in and What's not in the Windows & editions.  This list is based on build 7068 the most recent build to be released/leaked.

Ultimate and Enterprise:

The all you can eat editions, contain everything except Windows Anytime Upgrade (you’d already be running the highest edition available)

Professional:

No BitLocker

Home Premium:

No BitLocker
No EFS (Encrypting File System)
No Support for backup to a network location
Client-only Remote Desktop

Home Basic:

No Aero Glass
No Premium games
No BitLocker
No EFS (Encrypting File System)
No Support for backup to a network location
Client-only Remote Desktop
No Media Center support
No Tablet PC or Multi-Touch support
No built-in support for DVD burning or playback
Single procesor support only

Starter:

3 app limit
No Aero Glass
No Live Taskbar Preview support
No Premium games
No BitLocker
No EFS (Encrypting File System)
No Support for backup to a network location
Client-only Remote Desktop
No Media Center support
No Tablet PC or Multi-Touch support
No built-in support for DVD burning or playback
Single procesor support only
No Fast User Switching
