Apple Considering Front Facing Cameras?
« on: February 19, 2010, 08:02:49 PM »
A patent diagram hints at a possible hardware update.

February 18, 2010 - Video calls have been pretty much impossible on Apple's portable devices. The iPhone and iPod both have rear-facing cameras, and the iPad - as of now - has no camera at all. But a new patent filed by Apple shows that front-facing cameras may be on the way.

Gizmodo reports that a patent titled "Apparatus and Method for Compensating for Variations in Digital Cameras" talks about ways Apple can standardize the optics used in their devices. But more interestingly, the patent includes a diagram of an Apple device with a prominent forward facing camera. A flight of artistic fancy, or a hint of what's to come? If Apple is suddenly becoming more interested in the quality of their cameras, it may be worth getting your hopes up.
