Among Other Hot Features [Nokia Asks Users What Symbian 3 Features They Desire; Reveals Multitasking in Video]
Symbian^3 is coming soon and we’ve already seen the first leaked shots of Nokia’s next flagship phone rumored to run the new OS version. But how will it really look and feel? Will it be able to be at least equally impressive as Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 OS which will also be unveiled in the second half of the year?
It seems that Nokia has decided to ask its fans what hot features they want to see in the upcoming Symbian^3 phones. So what did they answer?
It looks like the most sought after feature is next-gen graphics with 28% of the votes. Coming on second place with 18% was multitouch, which is something we seem to care a lot about when shopping for new smartphones. Third place went to the home screen although there are many more new features Symbian^3 will have to offer.
Following these top three selections people voted for better memory management, more music compatibility, more PC like functions, 4G connectivity, multitasking, single-tap interaction, smart network management HDMI support and one click connectivity.
Now these features all sound more than great but a very important one stands out as being apparently neglected by the voters. True multitasking is probably the Holy Grail of current smartphones. It’s not easy to be offered by manufacturers and customers keep complaining about the lack of it on a regular basis.
The short video below shows us what Symbian^3 is probably going to look like. Sure these are just concepts for now but we’re probably going to see them materialize in the upcoming Symbian^3 smartphones. Quickly moving to minute 1:01 you will discover a “visual multi-tasking” feature which will apparently let us switch between the various applications running in the background without having to shut down any of them
Does Nokia really have what it takes to offer multitasking on their smartphones this year? If so, will we see multitasking on other similar devices from the competition too?
