Companies starting to take advantage of the new capabilities of iOS 4. GPS navigation firm Navigon, posted a video demonstrating the company’s GPS application running on iPhone, taking advantage of iOS 4 multitasking capabilities. The video shows how a user can switch to Safari to look up information and easily return to their navigation application. As an additional example, the video demonstrates how to accept an incoming call while in the Navigon application, allowing voice guidance to continue in the background during the call.
Upon call termination, the Navigon application automatically comes back to the foreground and full navigation resumes. Apple announced multitasking back in April as one of the featured enhancements in iOS 4. Due to memory restrictions, multitasking will be support only on the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and third-generation iPod touch with the launch of iOS 4 on June 21. Navigon’s demonstration video can be found below.
