As news about Microsoft’s Windows 8 plans are quickly spreading the world Tony Bradley from PCWorld magazine expressed his mind on how this could impact individual and business customers who are still hesitant to move to Windows 7 platform from their beloved XP machines.
Today Windows 7 is the fastest selling OS of all time as Microsoft reports that over 150 million units have been sold to date and nothing indicates the pace will slow down due to the fact that some organizations are still deep in thought about whether to transition to Windows 7.
Many users have already seen in practice that shift from XP to Windows 7 brings many advantages. Still, many enterprises are still using old XP machines and they doubt whether it is worthwhile to move to a new OS as such project implicates the renewal of the hardware. And the reports about Windows 8 plans only add oil to the fire as companies do not want to invest money into the new hardware with the knowledge that Windows 8 might make that investment obsolete in about two years.
As we all could have learned from the slides posted online in Windows 8 project Microsoft wants to more closely emulate the Apple user experience and ensure its systems "just work" which means giving hardware developers a heads up on the functionality Microsoft is going to demand to deliver on its vision for Windows 8.
Meantime, businesses anyway have to transition from XP machines to newer OSs as long as in a couple of weeks Microsoft ceases support for Windows XP SP2 and not much time is left for the company to announce the OS absolutely illegitimate.
