Apple today removed the curtains of the new Reatil Store in Shanghai, China. The name of the new store is Pudong. Following Apple’s tradition, the entrance of the store (a huge cylindric glass) was covered with red curtains. The store is completely underground with only the entrance being above ground, similar to Apple’s flagship retail store in New York 5th Ave. The unveiling revealed a spiral glass staircase to the underground retail space that is still not visible.
The store is located at the foot of the International Finance Center. It is part of the surrounding IFC Mall next to retail boutiques including Armani, Cartier, Chanel, Ferragamo, Gucci, Hermes, Prada, Vuitton, and Tiffany. Pudong is scheduled to open this Saturday at 10 a.m. and is one of the two new stores opening in Shanghai this summer. Apple has plans to open 25 new Retail Stores in China by the end of 2011.
