AT&T Giving Away Free 3G MicroCells

to "Most Valuable Customers" to Cure Reception woes''

When it comes to judging a mobile carrier, regardless of what handsets they offer, the reliability of their network is brought to the front. Sure, it may have the latest and greatest smart phones, but if it can’t hold a reception for more than a few minutes it’s going to be deemed a crappy carrier and receive a tarnished image in the public eye. AT&T, as an example, has long been known to have one of the fastest 3G networks out there but when it comes to network reliability, it has long been regarded as one of the worst with frequently dropped calls and spotty reception across the country.

While AT&T has generally been regarded as a lackluster carrier, one of the main reasons users have been flocking to it left and right is due to Apple’s iPhone lineup. Unfortunately for AT&T haters who love Apple devices, the iPhone has long been known to be exclusive to the carrier with no word on when we’ll officially see it hit others.

To make matters even worse, with the latest rendition of the iPhone (the iPhone 4) design flaws regarding the outer stainless steel band that acts has the device’s antenna. Due to this design flaw, the iPhone 4 has seen dropped calls and terrible reception especially when held in the left hand.

Luckily, for AT&T users receiving terrible reception, the carrier came forth not too long ago to debut the 3G MicroCell which is a piece of hardware that you connect to your home broadband connection and in turn acts as a mini cellphone tower, giving users improved reception within their phone.

The only problem with the 3G MicroCell is the fact that you have to pay for it when many users have argued AT&T’s service should be flawless without the device. However, reports have recently surfaced that say AT&T has begun sending out 3G MicroCells to some of its ‘most valued customers’. While there’s no depiction of the criteria to receive these devices for free, if you’re getting poor reception your best bet may be to call up AT&T, complain, and hope for the best.
