I seached for a solution on the web but only found solutions for windows vista users...

This error normally appears when U used a crack.
Did U use a original key?
Did U used a patch?? in this case U need to uninstall all crackz, hackz.
Try this and use a key (I will provide U one).

I did a little googling earlier but didn't find anything yet. I will keep looking for a solution and in the meantime you might try doing a system restore to right after the install and starting over with updates.

I will let you know when I find something.

thnx sceadwe!

in the meantime I did some solution work and found something on the windows website:

1.Exit all Windows open on your Vista computer.
2.Click Start, click All Programs, and then click Accessories.
3.Right-click the Command Prompt option and then select Run as Administrator from the right-click menu.
4.Type the following command in the Administrator: Command Prompt window and then press Enter.
net stop WuAuServ

Note: View the Command Prompt messages to ensure that the service stops successfully.

5.Next, click Start, select Start Search, type %windir% and then press Enter.
6.In the folder that opens, search for the Software Distribution folder.
7.Rename the folder to Software Distribution Old.
8.Go back to the Administrator: Command Prompt window, type the following command and then press Enter.
net start WuAuServ

Note: View the command prompt messages to ensure that the service starts successfully.

9.Check the Windows Update Web site to see if you can update your Vista computer now. The Windows Update Software distribution folder is created again when the update starts

AFter I did this the update service started and worked fine! there was one update in line which had someting to do with windows defender after I installed this update (KB915597) I tried to update again but it failed giving the exact same code 8000FFFF error as before!

You tried this?:

If some part of Windows 7 is behaving strangely, and you don't know why, then click Control Panel > Find and fix problems (or 'Troubleshooting') to access the new troubleshooting packs. These are simple wizards that will resolve common problems, check your settings, clean up your system and more.

thnx riso for the errorfix program! did indeed found a lot of crap on my pc! unfortunately I have to pay 10 dollar to get rid of the most of it! (after I did run the session it deleted 65 files but the windows update error is still there) maybe I need to find an other registry tool?

and indeed bonus.. my laptop has 4gb ram but couldn't find any solution for this problem yet!

thnx again but still the error remains..

Freeware:
RegSeeker
I have used RegSeeker and personally really like the interface and overall quality of the product.
You can use it to search the registry for installed apps, startup entries, histories, favorites, etc.
You can also apply certain tweaks to the registry and, of course, clean the registry.
Works with Windows XP and Windows Vista also and has high ratings online
Tested by me with Windows 7 click on the .exe and run as Admin.

thnx riso! I already used this program yesterday in my search for a solution for the 8000FFFF error! no result unfortunately!

I think I read almost everything on the web about the 8000FFF error but can't find any solution that works..

Also perhaps a bit strange is the fact that no other windows 7 beta tester has reported this problem? I guess there are more people testing windows 7 who have a pc of lap running 4 gigs of memory ( I have a feeling that it is the 4 gigs which cause a problem in some strange way.. correct me if I am wrong)

jon,

sorry you are having trouble finding a solution to your problem, I may have missed you mentioning this elsewhere but are you running windows 7 x86 (32 bit) or x64 (64 bit)? If you are running the 32 bit version it may have to do with the fact that a 32 bit operating system cannot address more than about 3.3 Gb of ram.  My suggestion if you are running the 32 bit os is to reinstall with the 64 bit version instead (as long as your processor supports 64 bit) and see if you have the problem still. And if you are already running the 64 bit operating system i apologize for wasting your time with this post and i will keep looking for a solution.

hmm...

So you are already running the 64 bit version, that complicates things. Do you have a single stick of ram or 2 2GB sticks? if you have two maybe try removing one and booting and see if the update will download and install successfully.  If it does we know for sure it has to do with having 4 GB of ram and maybe we can work from there.

oke sceadwe updat so far

* I removed 2 gigs of memory out of my laptop -- restarted my lap-- and tried to update with 2 gigs of memory.. same error! so we can say that the error as far as I can tell has nothing to do with the 4 gigs of me ( although it might be something that has to do with windows vista)

so we can work from here..

ok well at least we know its not a hardware issue, from what we can tell. which is nice cuz replacing hardware is gonna cost money whereas replacing software or fixing software will only cost time.  Next question I have is how many times have you installed windows 7 on this laptop? If this is your second or more time installing windows 7 on this laptop then did you experience this issue with any previous installs? If this is your first install then well if it comes down to it and we cannot find a fix for this error, or you grow tired of waiting you may have to reinstall Windows 7 on this laptop.  I know that is a pain so hopefully we can find something soon.

Maybe it has something to do with:

Your Bios: Install the latest version.

Your Mobo: Install New Mobo.drivers.

Intel based?: Install the latest Intel.inf file

Take as many possible cards out of the pc, just to try.

Sound driver o.k?

Video driver o.k?

Tv cards/ capture cards etc. may cause prob's.

When all id not succeeded: Install x32 version on the p.c

You might consider to make more partitions on the same h.d.d or a ertra h.d.d just to test.

Well I guess that's an awfull lot of work to try to fix it riso.. I know I should try to find a solution but at this point I think it is way easier to install windows 7 again.. ( I am now running dualboot vista windows 7)

again the problem never occured until like 5 days ago I already ran over all the possible programs I installed or worked with which may have caused any problems or difficulties related to windows update but nothing seems to work ( I already did a system restore towards the first restore point which was like 4 weeks agoo)

I will wait for any solutions whatsoever for now but I guess it will be a clean install for me in about 2 weeks!

riso/ sceadwe.. is there a manual way of downloading the updates for windows 7?

thnx again!

No manual way yet and a second partition is made in 19 sec on Your existing drive in the free space part, the disktool is implemented in Windows7

I made some time ago a article on how to do that, have to look it up.
Acces it via Diskmanagement

Handy help page from Ms.
The Fix-it teams' purpose is to help users fix their problems in a click of a button. Have you ever come across a Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) article or been presented with a Windows Error Reporting (WER) solution and asked yourself, why can't Microsoft just fix this for me?
.........................Our team's purpose is to automate the steps in Microsoft KB articles and Windows Error Reporting (WER) solutions so you can click a button and have the issue resolved.
The Microsoft KB articles and the Windows Error Reporting are now fix-it enabled with a list of steps that can be followed to resolve the issue.
See the fix list:

Yesssss U got it right,

Make 1 or 2 partitions and install windows again at start-up You may choose win 1 or 2 (3) it is perfect like this,

I have here also alot partitions to test.

This is good advice, and repartitioning and installing a second 32 bit as dual boot to test the updates is a good idea. But just keep in mind that 32 bit will only be able to address up to about 3.3 GB of your ram. and you might try installing a second copy of the 64 bit version in a seperate partition and see if the update issue is consistent there as well.

ps.. windows update agent (for vista) isn't going to install properly on windows 7 which makes sense ofcourse but might this be a solution? read something about in on fora where they talked about the 8000FFFF error which occurs a lot on the windows vista system!

Holy Crap

So im not the only one experiencing this problem...

but its just another case from me...I upgraded my vista ultimate x64(integrated) into windows 7 beta build 7000

and then to my surprise My enterprise edition office start to update again to sp1 and some other crap...they all installed fine except for one. the sp1..I uninstalled for now the office so I cannot get the code...

and then when I update again I got the same error as the op
