Portable Windows Movie Maker
« on: May 16, 2009, 06:32:50 PM »
Remember when we told you how you could get the old Windows Movie Maker back?
It seems that the newest Windows Live Movie Maker removed a few features people loved in an effort to simplify the product. But for those of you who preferred the more advanced version – it’s still out there.  Now one developer has taken the old Movie Maker a step further – he’s created a portable version of the program based on Windows Movie Maker 2.1. The new app, called simply Portable Windows Movie Maker, works on Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7. And yes, since it’s portable, you can carry it with you on a USB flash drive or you can just run it from the hard drive without having to install it first.

Microsoft info on Movie maker, overview:
Movie Maker 2.6 is for Windows Vista users whose computer cannot run the Vista version of Movie Maker.
To test if your computer can run the Vista version of Movie Maker:
1. From the Start menu, click All Programs.
2. Click Windows Movie Maker.
If Movie Maker launches, you should not download version 2.6.
If you get an error message that says, "Windows Movie Maker cannot start because your video card does not support the required level of hardware acceleration or hardware acceleration is not available", download and install Movie Maker 2.6.
System Requirements
Supported Operating Systems: Windows Vista; Windows Vista Business; Windows Vista Enterprise; Windows Vista Home Basic; Windows Vista Home Premium; Windows Vista Starter; Windows Vista Ultimate
Movie Maker 2.6 requires a version of Microsoft Windows Vista that has the Vista version of Movie Maker already installed.
Instructions
The Movie Maker 2.6 installer must be run with administrator privileges.
1. Select language
2. Click the Download button.
3. Click "Run" to run the installer.

If you downloaded the new Windows Live tools, then you probably have installed the new version of Windows Live Movie Maker, the easy to use software that lets you transform your videos into great movies. For Movie Maker aficionados, though, the new Windows Live Movie Maker is too stripped down. In an effort to simply the program, features like timeline and audio edits were removed along with the ability to overlay text on a video, among other things.
But for these more advanced users of Windows Movie Maker, there’s now some good news: the 2.6 version of Windows Movie Maker is available for download now – and it even works on Windows 7 Beta! If you want to get this older version back, you can do so: just follow the link below:
