Microsoft Releases Windows 7 SP1 To OEMs
« on: January 14, 2011, 06:48:35 PM »

Confusion remains why the update has been released today and not last Tuesday, the day of the week Microsoft has traditionally published these updates in the past.

The final build number of SP1 is apparently 7601.17514.win7sp1_rtm.101119-1850.

What makes this report interesting is the fact that Microsoft posted a software update for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 this past Tuesday, which is a requirement to install and remove a service packs for Windows 7 or Server 2008 R2. The SP1 release candidate was made available in October 2010.

SP1 includes cumulative security patches for both operating systems as well as RemoteFX, which is a “set of remote user experience capabilities that enable a media-rich user environment for virtual and session-based desktops.” SP1 also delivers Dynamic Memory, which enables servers running Hyper-V for server virtualization to be more efficient in the use of memory.
